🤓 The Technical: Took a sick day. The honest version is it was a mental health day, and as far as I'm...

Random Thoughts from a Restless Mind

🤓 The Technical: Busy day, no fires, which is the good kind of busy. At the day job I got pulled into the gnarly preorder/add-to-cart ticket - the one with a month of acceptance criteria and a dozen rounds of dev-and-QA back-and-forth before anyone thought to tag me. Dug in, found the fix, got the PR prepared and submitted. Also got some good staffing news: I'm rolling onto a new project at 100% through mid-October, which quietly takes the pressure off the billable-hours math I'd been sweating.
The real fun was Uncle Versace Bot. None of it ships until Sunday, but it's all merged and tested. First, Twitch integration - a proper OAuth connection flow under your account that shows connection status, the channel you're linked as, last-verified time, and every permission the bot holds, plus buttons to connect, reauthorize, recheck, refresh tokens, or disconnect entirely. This is the foundation a lot of the better features have been waiting on, and it comes with my first cron job for the project, so wish me luck come Sunday. On top of that, a goals feature that queries your live channel for follower, sub, and points targets, with a widget and per-goal display toggles. And a quotes feature - mods can store quotes from chat, anyone can pull a random one back out. Rounded it all out with some backlog grooming and clearing a few deprecation notices.
Honestly I'm cranking features out a little too fast now. I've hit the point where most of what's left needs the bigger infrastructure work - WebSockets or a message queue - and I'd rather batch that than dribble it out mid-week.
😎 The Atmosphere: No stream today. Four meetings spread across 10 to 2 made it more trouble than it was worth, so I worked from the office to stay focused instead of splitting between the couch and the desk. The evening was YouTube videos on the couch, low-key, winding down.
🐶 The Coworker: Hubert worked a full shift. Morning: waiting in bed when I got up at 6:30, which somehow bought me two extra hours of sleep I apparently needed. Midday: out on the deck even though there wasn't a hint of sun, which has me seriously considering getting him an actual outdoor bed so he's not just lying on planks. Evening: he waited until the last sixty seconds of my video to relocate to right beside me on the couch, which means I'm stuck there indefinitely. Total professional.
😡 The Rant: Trying to find a new doctor in this country is a special kind of hell. Called one my mom recommended - not accepting new patients. Nearly every other option in town is owned by the hospital monopoly I'm actively trying to avoid. And the insurance dashboard that's supposed to tell me who's taking patients, the one that explicitly says "call them"? Out of date or just broken, so I did the right thing, called ahead, and still got my time wasted. All I want is to see a doctor and confirm I'm not falling apart. Apparently that's too much to ask for.
🙂🙂🙂 The Smiles: Two of three life-admin calls actually landed - electrician booked, my mom's car appointment made - and the big add-to-cart PR is off my plate. But the real one is Hubert. He clocked in this morning when I needed it and clocked back in tonight without being asked. He always seems to know.
