🤓 The Technical: Started the day with two tickets assigned to me. Both big, neither complicated - the kind that are mostly scaffolding and boilerplate. Then a third one came back from QA before I'd touched either, which is a great way to open a Monday. This one was on the admin dashboard side of the held inventory system. Orders get split into two product groupings, held and immediate, and on a mixed order the dashboard was only surfacing one of the two. The fix ended up being a small conditional so that every group renders and gets labeled correctly. Third pass on that ticket, second bounce from QA, though in fairness the acceptance criteria shifted underneath it somewhere along the way, so I'm only taking partial credit for that one. Tested, committed, PR up.
Then one of the other devs messaged to say he'd already done one of my two remaining tickets and wasn't sure why it got reassigned to me. Miscommunication, not a crisis. I'll send it back and pull something new.
On my own stuff, I finally got weekly maintenance and deploys out. They were supposed to happen Sunday night and didn't. All three droplets updated and rebooted, all five projects on their latest release. The one I actually cared about was the Node bot fix for the crash that happens when Twitch closes the WebSocket. This is the third attempt at that fix, which is a sentence I would very much like to stop writing. As it stands, when the bot goes down it can be down for a few minutes or several hours depending on when I happen to notice. So now it's a waiting game to see if this one holds. Upside: it's Monday and I'm already clean going into Sunday's release, which is a nicer place to be standing than usual.
😎 The Atmosphere: The Simpsons in the morning, and again over lunch on the couch with a heating pad, because my back has opinions. A big thunderstorm rolled through in the afternoon, which is one of my favorite things that happens. Somewhere in there I got pulled into a reaction video for The Town and went down a genuine rabbit hole on bank robbery statistics - clearance rates, average hauls, why the Hollywood vault job basically doesn't exist anymore in an era of time locks and dye packs. Closed the night out with Iron Man.
🐶 The Coworker: Hubert worked shifts today. Came into the bedroom early and laid down with me, migrated to the couch when I did at lunch, and napped through most of the workday. After everyone left tonight he laid on the floor next to me instead of coming up to cuddle. Either he's moping that the house got quiet again or he was just wiped out from the excitement of having people over. With him it could go either way.
😡 The Rant: Garbage bags. I got a message at 6:17 asking if we were still playing Magic. We usually start at 6:30. So I grabbed a bag and started speed-cleaning. First I dropped a mostly-full open beer can off the counter, which went everywhere and left me smelling like a tailgate. Fine. Possibly my fault. Then I put the can in the bag, kept picking things up, and noticed a puddle spreading across my floor. The bag was leaking. Not a reused grocery sack. An actual garbage bag, out of an actual box, that I paid actual money for. It has one job.
🙂🙂🙂 The Smiles: Magic happened after all. We got a game and a half in. The first one we called as a draw around turn nine, when I was lining up a non-deterministic combo with Muldrotha and a friend had exactly the right interaction at exactly the right moment to blow up my board. Restarted with four and I took that one with Muldrotha. The new cards feel good. That deck started life as an excuse to run my From the Vault Marit Lage token and has since become an excuse to put Bazaar of Baghdad, Tabernacle, original duals, and a pile of fetches on the table. It's flashy, it probably needs to stay parked in bracket three, and it is a genuinely great time. A good night with friends after a rough start to the week. I'll take it.
